SOUTH EAST Patriots’ Assembly (SEPA) which supported President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the recent presidential election, has asked Labour Party’s Mr. Peter Obi who is challenging the victory to heed growing calls among progress-minded Southeasters to drop his case at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) and negotiate for Ndigbo in the in-coming Federal Government.
SEPA’s Chief Media Strategist, Hon. Emeka Nwankpa, who spoke to reporters yesterday in Abuja on the sidelines of yesterday’s grand reception for the home-return from France of the President-elect and his wife, Oluremi, at the Presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, said that the call became necessary considering what he described as ‘’mammoth, tumultuous and utterly bewildering show of popular goodwill by many Nigerians cutting across racial, regional and religious divide’’ at the event.
The group’s chieftain stated that yesterday’s massive reception for the President-elect was further proof that many Nigerians from different regional, ethnic, religious and political persuasions had fully accepted the outcome of the elections and resolved to put it behind, awaiting his forth-coming official inauguration with huge zeal, anticipation and eagerness to see a new Nigeria emerge with renewed hope.
Describing the event as exciting and refreshing, the group echoed the recent call on the Ndigbo kinsfolk by former Enugu State Governor, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani representing Enugu East Senatorial District to shelve further regrets and recriminations over the 2023 elections and quickly adjust and brace up to present political realities which demand immediate alignment to the Tinubu’s mainstream administration in the collective interest of the people of Southeast
The group also expressed full confidence that the incoming Bola Tinubu administration would be just, fair and equitable in the allocation and distribution of federal largesse, policies, appointments and resources to all Nigerians irrespective of ethnic, regional or religious affiliations.
‘’SEPA believes that Ndigbo should be involved in the new political dispensation as active players in bringing about a new Nigeria. The Southeast has mature leaders who are endowed with the necessary temperament for the moment, to lead the region and join other ethnic nationalities in negotiating the best for our good people and other Nigerians.
‘’Our brother and compatriot, Mr. Peter Obi, has history on his side, He should not miss the moment. Rather, he should heed growing calls on him to drop his case against the President-elect’s victory. Nothing is coming out of this case at the tribunal. There is no more point to make other than to use the remaining goodwill to negotiate the best for the Southeast.
‘’Nigerians have accepted the outcome of the election and have resolved to put it behind and move on with anticipation and eagerness to see a new Nigeria emerge with renewed hope. From what we could see at this grand airport reception for President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, all eyes are on him to begin to set the tone for the making of a progressive Nigeria where no citizen is deprived of the right to aspire to higher ideals in a conducive environment. The Ndigbo has a lot to gain in the new dispensation. He deserves our total support’’, Emeka Nwankpa said.
According to him, with the President-elect’s home return, the coming days, weeks and months would be crucial in determining the political fate and the overall destiny of the Southeast in the new dispensation.
‘’The coming days, weeks and months will be very crucial in determining the political fate and overall destiny of the Southeast in the new dispensation. What that means is that the leaders of the region should close their ranks and strategize for their common purpose eschewing the usual shenanigans and divisiveness of the past. We call on the entire leaders to forge elite consensus and commonality of purpose’’, he said.
