Determined to improve telecom operations in Nigeria using modern peer review mechanism, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida jetted to Dubia to meet world’s telecom regulators on the way forward. Already he has had fruitful discussions with Dubai’s telecom industry regulator, Majed Sultan Al Mesmar whose achievements he extolled.

The NCC boss expressed enthusiasm with the remarkable strides in spectrum management and investment facilitation achieved by the Dubai telecom industry regulator, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority whose Director General, Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, he met on the sidelines of the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) in Dubai.
Maida said he was impressed by the transformative progress witnessed under the leadership of the Emirate’s telecom authority, emphasizing that there was the need for a paradigm shift in operational strategies for sectoral transformation.

He said that NCC and the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority shared the common vision to radically change the way things were done in order to the make sector achieve real time growth and transformation.

He stated this in a post on his X platform (formerly Twitter), noting, “If you have knowledge, share it. It is not enough, as far as I know. It is better when we all know.”

“My meeting with my Dubai counterpart, Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, the DG of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, was both inspiring and profound.

“I was excited-even challenged-by the advancements the authority has made over the years, especially in areas of spectrum management and facilitating investments in the telecommunications industry in Dubai.

“We both share a common vision that if we must transform telecommunications in both our countries, then we must radically change the way we do things.

“And this should start with achieving operational excellence within our regulatory authorities,” Maida said.

Meanwhile, in another development, the NCC boss had met with Meta to push for increased investments in internet connectivity in the country.

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission took this stance recently at an exploratory meeting with a delegation from Meta at the commission’s headquarters Abuja who came to discuss increased investments in internet connectivity in Nigeria.

Dr. Maida was accompanied to the meeting by senior members of his management staff while the Meta team was led by Mr. Kojo Boakye, Vice President for Africa, Middle East, and Turkey.

The meeting was said to be mutually beneficial, considering that Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses.
